This is the difference of doing direct imports vs. buying imported bags domestically. Since every production lot is customized in the China factory, you can choose your style, color, size, construction, etc., but must meet the minimum order quantity of material, which translate to about 1,000 to 5,000 depending on the material. Companies that sell smaller quantities such as 50, 100, etc. buy their bags in bulk from China, then sell to customers from their inventory. These are two different ways of buying China-produced bags. Shop Eco Bag does offer our own gift bag line. We keep inventories of these bags and you can purchase small quantities with no customization. Since every order is customized, it is not possible to buy small quantity of customized material. Due to material requirements, we must produce minimum quantity of bags, which may vary from 1,000 – 5,000 depending on the style and material.
Small shipments are also NOT economical to ship from overseas since there are minimums for fees charged by the shipping company and government agencies. These fees look proportionally high if the shipment is too small and will off-set the savings intended by manufacturing in China. Ultimately, it defeats the whole purpose of direct importing.
FOB(Free on Board) China means we will deliver the goods to your designated forwarder in China as you will be handling your own international freight and importation. You get an invoice for the cost of bags, and then expect to get bills for freight and various fees separately from other vendors.
DDP (delivered duty paid – door to door pricing) is your TOTAL cost, including cost of the goods, international freight, all documentation, import duty, custom clearance fees, etc. You get ONE invoice. NO surprises. NO hidden costs.
Direct Imports is an ideal combination of the cost-saving of manufacturing in China and the conveniences of dealing with a well-established U.S. company who has been in business for over 25 years.
The product is manufactured overseas (China) and then shipped directly to customer’s warehouse, without going through a 3rd party warehouse/inventory. Some companies make the bags in China, then ship to their own warehouse and sell to customers from their inventories. Of course, the cost of keeping inventories is part of the overhead that will eventually go into the customer’s cost.
It’s also different than buying directly from a China bag factory because, with direct imports, you will be working with a U.S. company, enjoying U.S. services and protected by U.S. warranty.

There are many bag factories in China. Going directly to China factories is certainly an option, but it means customers will have to deal with all the importing issues themselves and there might be some gaps in communications due to international time differences, language barriers and culture differences, not to mention that the credibility and integrity of the China factory need to be verified.

As every eco bags order is customized, specific materials have to be ordered for the lot and that could take up to 30 days. Then, we need to add product time and international shipping, etc. and that makes the turn-around of eco bags about 60-90 days.
Direct import orders are all made overseas, fully customized. Some importers will order bulk bags per their own specs and sell off the inventory. In this case, customers are limited to taking what has already been made with just the logo added, thus, the lead time is obviously shorter.
You know your needs the best. If your objective is to have really sharp printing, then go with laminated digital printing. If you want to use post-consumer recycled material, then RPET is for you. If you want natural fiber, then chose organic cotton, jute or bamboo. If your products are big and heavy, then use proper weight material. If your product is wide, then have a wide gusset. Lamination is a very thin layer of film over the bag. It may incorporate printing onto the film to achieve stunning printing effects. It can also give the bag a metallic look. Lamination also makes the bag easier to wipe-clean. Non-laminated bags are cheaper, softer and may be machine-washed. They are just different options, subject to each customer’s needs.
Due to the material characteristics, PPNW can be made into different weight, which gives customers options to go lower or higher to achieve the particular price point and/or satisfy the intended usage.
The terms may get a bit confusing. Silk-screen printing is usually for less than 3 colors printing and the printing is done directly ONTO the bag itself. Digital printing is usually for multi-color artwork or photos. Generally, digital printing is done on a piece of film, and then laminated onto the bag.
If re-order is done within 6 months from the last order, there is no need to pay the set-up fee again. If re-order is much later, then there might be a need to pay the set-up fee again. Your Account Manager will do the best they can to check the exact situation.
Most definitely. After you decide on all the specifications, a sample can be made for your approval, after you confirm the price is acceptable. A digital mock-up may be provided first in order to confirm all details. If you do not have a logo to print on the sample and the sample does not require special customized color, then one sample may be made free of charge and the customer only needs to pay for the international courier fee to send the samples from China to the U.S. More samples may result in sample fees. If an order is placed based on digital mock-up, then approval samples will automatically be made at no cost to customers, freight pre-paid.
Existing samples from factories to show workmanship are usually provided free of charge.
Yes. You may designate different artwork for each side of the bag… front, back, side and bottom. Bear in mind that each artwork will incur a separate plating or set-up charge.
It is possible to mix them but not always advisable. This adds complexity of production and may create other challenges, such as slower production, etc. If you do need to mix the materials for any particular reason, please discuss with your Account Manager and they will walk you through the process of different possibilities. The best is Illustrator (AI) file format and VECTOR files. If you only have JPG or PDF files. We may have to convert the files at the factory and the printing may not be as sharp.
Yes. You just need to indicate a Pantone number or send a big enough piece swatch (8” x8” preferably) to match. Please bear in mind that, due to material characteristics, printing colors may vary slightly from the Pantone chip or the swatch you sent. If the color is not one of the running standard colors, you may have to pay a sample fee upfront or to place a conditional order before seeing samples of the actual color material. In the rare case of a particular color that CAN NOT be achieved, your Account Manager shall inform you immediately.
